The Clemson Tigers will still be without their leader quarterback Trevor Lawrence as they take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. That will be a major concern in the only Top-5 matchup of the weekend. While Lawrence still can't play after testing positive for COVID-19 before last week's game, he is reportedly out of his 10-day isolation period and he will be able to join his teammates on the sidelines. He will likely play after a bye week if everything continues to improve with his health against Florida State.
Their matchup against Notre Dame was going to be their biggest obstacle of the regular season whether Lawrence was playing or not. The Irish are undefeated and a force of their own playing for the first time in football in the ACC. Clemson is still the favorite because of their elite offense and defense that can hang with Notre Dame's. The Irish haven't been as dominant as Clemson has in their undefeated runs.
But Clemson is on serious upset alert. They only beat Boston College 34-28 last week behind backup QB D.J. Uiagalelei, who took over for Lawrence. Uiagalelei passed for 342 yards against the Eagles and accounted for three scores but had to make a tremendous comeback to fend off the upset victory. Clemson was down 18 points at half to a team they otherwise would have beat in their sleep. To be fair, Boston College's only loses were against ranked North Carolina and Virginia Tech before they lost to Clemson, but it should have never been that close.
