City beat Swansea City 3-1 to secure a spot in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday, a result that made them the first English first-tier team to win 15 games in a row in all competitions. Pep Guardiola also added to his personal collection of accolades with his 200th victory at the club (including penalty shootouts) in only his 268th game:

Spurs were ejected from the FA Cup on the same evening after they emerged on the losing side of a 5-4 extra-time result at Everton. Jose Mourinho’s men twice fought back from behind to draw level at Goodison Park, but Brazilian substitute Bernard tucked away the decider in their nine-goal bonanza:

Those extra 30 minutes could prove particularly unwelcome for a Tottenham team set to play its seventh game in 19 days, though a surprise win for the visitors could lift them as high as fifth in the table.

Spurs did the double over City in 2020 and won 2-0 on each occasion (both at home) with Mourinho the last manager to outmaneuver Guardiola prior to his side’s current 22-game unbeaten streak. The landscape has drastically changed for both clubs since then, with the Citizens replacing Tottenham at the Premier League peak and getting back to their most irrepressible form.

Harry Kane scored off the bench in the midweek loss to Everton but will be restored to the starting XI at the Etihad. It’s the Spurs back line that’s due in for questioning by City after keeping only two clean sheets in their last 11 league games, however, with Mourinho opting not to get drawn into the defensive details following their leaky display on Merseyside:

Guardiola told reporters he hopes to have Rodri back at the base of his midfield despite the Spaniard limping off during their win over Swansea. The involvement of record signing Ruben Dias is in doubt after he missed the game due to illness, however, while Fernandinho also missed the trip to south Wales with a quadricep injury. Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Nathan Ake also missed the FA Cup clash, and it’s doubtful whether any will be involved on Saturday.

Gareth Bale and Serge Aurier were both out injured for Tottenham’s midweek matchup but could be back in contention for City, while Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon are likely to remain sidelined.

City are five point clear at the Premier League summit with a game in hand, but a Week 24 win could boost that cushion even further. Mourinho will be desperate to claw back some pride after losing four of his last five games, with Spurs eyeing a potential slip to ninth should they fall at the Etihad.
