Chelsea will look to extend a seven-match unbeaten streak and climb into the Premier League’s top four when they host out-of-sorts Sheffield United on Saturday.
The Blades were surprise 3-0 winners over Chelsea when these teams last met in July, but results have since nosedived for the Yorkshire outfit, who sit 19th and are still seeking their first win of the campaign:
Chelsea are in quite the opposite vein and return home in Week 8 chasing a fourth straight win in all competitions, not to mention their sixth successive clean sheet in all competitions.
The Blues will be without Kai Havertz at Stamford Bridge after he tested positive for the coronavirus, but manager Frank Lampard confirmed there were no further positive tests among his squad.

Things have really started clicking into place for Chelsea following the arrival of numerous new faces over the summer. The club’s only home defeat this term came against defending league champions Liverpool in Week 2, keeping clean sheets in four of their five home outings since then.
It’s no surprise their pickup in form has coincided with Edouard Mendy’s promotion into the No. 1 goalkeeper spot. The Senegal international kept clean sheets in each of his first three Premier League appearances, the first Chelsea goalkeeper to do so since Petr Cech in August 2004.
Cech—now an advisor who recently rejoined Chelsea’s keeper corps on an emergency basis—told BT Sport of the hand he played in bringing Mendy to the club late this past summer:
Chris Wilder’s side will be hard-pressed to break the Blues’ impenetrable run considering they’ve scored only three times in seven Premier League games this season. It’s only a slight consolation those three strikes came in their last four games, netting the joint-fewest of any team in the division.

Sheffield United are yet to pick up any points away from home in four attempts so far this term, and the club’s last win at Stamford Bridge came back in October 1992. The Blades scythed back from 2-0 down to draw at the ground last August, where Kurt Zouma’s 89th-minute own-goal rained on Lampard’s parade in the opening weeks of the campaign.
Their attack will still be missing forward Lys Mousset in west London, though Wilder recently confirmed him and midfielder John Fleck are nearing returns to full fitness:
Both players would have been welcome as the club looks to end its 11-match win drought, with Ethan Ampadu—on loan at Bramall Lane also unavailable to play against his parent club.
Lampard looks more settled on his best lineup these days, and Chelsea have the strength to overcome Havertz’s absence, with Timo Werner,Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva all impressing in recent games.
Victory for the hosts could be enough to see them finish Week 8 as high as second if other results go in their favor, while Sheffield United need three points if they’re to escape the relegation places.
