Everton and Manchester United are looking to get back to their winning ways. Will Ancelotti or Solskjaer take advantage? PETER POWELL/EPA

Manchester United and Everton will both be desperate for Premier League points when they meet on Merseyside in Saturday’s early kick-off. The Red Devils haven’t toppled the Toffees on their own soil since January 2018, with the last two meetings between this pair ending in 1-1 draws.

Carlo Ancelotti has faced United 15 times as a manager and triumphed on seven occasions, but the former Chelsea and AC Milan chief has failed to win the last four encounters (three losses, one draw).

Everton may feel some relief returning home following back-to-back losses at Southampton (2-0) and Newcastle United (2-1), more than a month removed from their last victory. They’ll hope to extend United’s losing streak to three after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side followed defeat to Arsenal with a shock 2-1 loss away to Basaksehir in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday:

United haven’t recorded three consecutive defeats since April 2019, but failure to beat Everton in their last two visits to Goodison Park is cause for concern ahead of Week 8.

Manchester United’s visit to Everton will be broadcast via NBCSN at 7:30 a.m. ET on Saturday. You can live stream Premier League matches on fuboTV.

Both these teams have been hurt by injuries in recent weeks. Though one could argue Ancelotti’s absences have had a greater impact considering Everton’s recent drop in results.

Lucas Digne and James Rodriguez should be welcomed back into Ancelotti’s XI after missing the defeat at Newcastle, though Richarlison will not play due to suspension:

While the Blues will be missing one of their key men in attack, United see one of theirs return after Anthony Martial served a three-match domestic suspension. The Frenchman scored their only goal during the midweek defeat in Istanbul, his second Champions League strike in as many outings.

Solskjaer confirmed on Friday that Eric Bailly and Phil Jones won’t feature due to injury, while Victor Lindelof is also a doubt in central defense. United could be aided by the return of left-back Alex Telles, however, after he finished a two-week isolation period due to a positive coronavirus test, via injury analyst Ben Dinnery:

The Toffees still sit fourth in the Premier League—11 places and seven points ahead of United—but could drop to mid-table if results go against them in Week 8.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the division’s joint-top scorer this season with eight, alongside Heung-min Son of Tottenham Hotspur. The England international has scored 11 in all competitions, and eight of those have come at Goodison Park, netting every time he’s played there this term.

The 23-year-old charged down David De Gea to bag a third-minute opener when these teams last met in March, but he’s excelled under Ancelotti since then to show he’s capable of a larger impact.

United’s inconsistent form remains a concern for Solskjaer & Co., but the team has taken two league wins from two away from Old Trafford this season. They’ll hope to get form back on track following recent disappointments, while a rejuvenated Toffees team look to ensure their sticky patch continues.
