Continental cousins will take their rivalry to foreign shores on Monday as the United States battle Panama in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, for the final leg of their international break.
Roughly 1,350 nautical miles separate Panama City from Key West in Florida—the southernmost tip of the United States—but the teams move their business across the Atlantic for what will be their 24th collision in all competitions.
The Stars and Stripes have dominated this matchup since the teams first met in 1964, winning 17 times and losing only twice, though one of those defeats came via penalties in the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup third-place play-off.
The most recent of those 23 encounters to date fell in last year’s Gold Cup when Gregg Berhalter’s side came away as narrow victors before finishing as runners-up to Mexico:
What TV Channel is United States-Panama on?
A young United States lineup will seek its fourth straight win over Panama on Monday, kicking off with FOX Sports 1 or TUDN at 2:45 p.m. ET. You can live stream international matches on fuboTV.
Panama were the first opponent Berhalter faced after being appointed United States coach in December 2018, and he’s won both meetings with four unanswered goals scored by his teams in the process. A young roster drew 0-0 with Euro 2016 semi-finalists Wales in their first friendly of this break on Thursday, but the United States will hope for a little more incision against Los Canaleros.
Berhalter handed six players their international debuts during the bore draw in Swansea on Wales’ south coast, with Giovanni Reyna, Yunus Musah and Konrad de la Fuente all part of the starting XI:
That leaves Bayern Munich’s Chris Richards, PSV Eindhoven’s Richard Ledezma and Telstar forward Sebastian Soto as the only outfielders in the U.S. squad yet to receive their first caps. One would imagine each of the trio will have some role against Panama, who could hand an international debut to Tampa Bay Rowdies midfielder Juan Tejada at Wiener Neustadt Stadium.

United States star Christian Pulisic left camp to return to Chelsea for further treatment on his hamstring injury shortly before the game against Wales.
Berhalter isn’t likely to encounter any more changes to his squad prior to facing Panama, and the coach voiced pride in his young lineup for what he considered a solid performance against the Welsh:
Despite going unbeaten in five years and five meetings against this opponent, the United States shouldn’t treat the Panamanian threat lightly. Danish coach Thomas Christiansen took over their setup in July this year and has won both his matches to date—back-to-back 1-0 victories over Costa Rica in October—meaning Los Canaleros are now unbeaten in their last four games.
Not only that, but the team has gone more than 360 minutes since they last conceded a goal, presenting a valuable challenge for a flourishing U.S. force still finding their feet in attack.
