Ella Martinez and Colombia will take the pitch against Mel Barcenas and the United States on Saturday night.

Colombia will take on the United States in the U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup at Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on Saturday night. This will be the second match in Group B for both of these teams and will be refereed by Ionela Alina Peşu. The United States lost its first game of the group stage play which makes the outcome of this game that much more important if the nation hopes to advance to the knockout stage. It almost certainly can’t lose again and expect to move forward. The US took on the group leader, Spain in the first round losing 3-1 leaving it with a negative-two-goal differential. An own goal by the United States in the second minute of the game set the tone early. However, it bounced back with a goal from Mel Barcenas in the 22nd minute to even it up heading into the halftime break. After going most of the second half holding Spain scoreless, the US gave up two goals in the 70th and 83rd minutes to lose.

On the other side, Colombia is looking to win and knock the United States out of contention. Currently, the nation sits in the middle of the group after drawing in its first group game with the Korean Republic. Colombia was the first on the board scoring just 28 minutes into the game on a goal from Ella Martinez.

Dominating the game, it conceded a penalty kick to Korea that was converted netting the game even in the 36th minute. Without either team being able to find another goal in the final 54 minutes of the game, it ended in a 1-1 draw and left both of these teams with a zero-goal differential in Group B.
