They came up short against Spain in the championship 3-1 and had to settle for as second place finish.

The Japanese team is one of the favorites coming into this tournament, but will need to take care of a pesky New Zealand team in their first match.
New Zealand didn’t do nearly as well in 2022 as it finished in last place in its group. The team failed to get a win, but did play to two draws.
They opened up the tournament with a. 1-1 draw to Mexico, but were shutout by Germany 3-0 in the second game. They would go on to play Colombia to a 2-2 draw in the final match. They would have advanced to the knockout stage with a win, but came up just short.
This year they will look for better results and it starts with a match against a very good Japan team. They are a big underdog, but can shock the group with a surprise win.
