The U.S. Open begins on Thursday at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club
The 2024 U.S. Open gets going on Thursday at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club. The top golfers in the world will compete to see which can win this prestigious major, which also happens to the 1,000th USGA staged championship ever. Last year, Wyndham Clark was the champion of the U.S. Open, which was held at Los Angeles Country Club. Clark won by one stroke over Rory McIlroy.

The field features a number of top players including 13 players from the LIV Golf Tour, offering a chance for those players to compete against top PGA players. Among the LIV players in the field are former U.S. Open winners Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer, Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka, as well as Phil Mickelson, who has six finishes of second in the event.
Other top names in the field include Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler, Tommy Fleetwood, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa.
Tigers Woods is set to compete in the U.S. Open for the first time since 2020.
Bernhard Langer, the winner of the U.S. Senior Open, opted not to compete in this event.
The last time this event was at Pinehurst was in 2014, when Martin Kaymer shot a nine-under and beat Erik Compton and Rickie Fowler by eight strokes. Before that, the U.S. Open was here in 2005, with Tigers Woods finishing as the runner-up to Michael Campbell.
