Canada will have lofty ambitions for the CONCACAF Gold Cup as it opens its campaign against Honduras on Tuesday.

Group B favorite Canada will get its toughest test of the pool phase out of the way first on Tuesday when it ignites its quest for CONCACAF Gold Cup glory against Honduras. Jesse Marsch’s men will have the advantage of home field running in their favor for their opening matchup in Vancouver, hoping to beat a Honduran outfit they devastated 4-1 when these teams last met in 2023. However, Honduras has won its last four games in a row and will fancy itself to stage a surprise by possibly taking the top spot in Group B and advancing with a priority place for the knockout stages.

Recent encounters between these two countries have been fairly evenly poised, with three wins apiece and two draws taking place over the last decade.

Canada recently got its hands on the Canadian Shield in a warm-up friendly tournament despite losing on penalties to the Ivory Coast in its last game of the competition.

Marsch will be seeking significant improvements from his squad based on that performance, though that’s not to dismiss the quality of the Ivory Coast displayed in that clash.

The Canucks technically remain undefeated in their last three games and kept their first clean sheet of 2025 in that bore draw, hoping to follow up with another against Honduras.

Los Catrachos won the Gold Cup (then the CONCACAF Championship) in 1991 and have twice finished as runners-up since then.

Former Colombia, Chile and Ecuador boss Reinaldo Rueda is currently in his second stint at the Honduras helm and previously led the team to a third place finish in 2009.

By contrast, Canada has two titles to its name and last reached the final four of the competition in 2021, hoping to go at least one better than that mark this year.
