Senegal’s African World Cup dream was shattered in the semifinals, but it can still attain its best Beach Soccer World Cup finish ever with a win over Portugal

Senegal’s dream was to become the first African nation to win the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup and to do so the first time the event was contested in Africa. But a semifinal loss on Saturday ended their quest and sent the Senegalese into Sunday’s third-place game at The Paradise Arena in Victoria, Seychelles. They will take on Portugal, a two-time World Cup champion that is looking for its first medal at the World Cup since winning it all in 2019. Senegal can do no worse than match its best finish ever, a fourth-place run in 2021.
