United States and Japan face off on Saturday in the 2025 IIHF U-18 Women’s World Championship.

Vantaa Trio Arena is set to host the exciting weekend matchup between the United States and Japan in the 2025 IIHF U-18 Women’s World Championship on Saturday. The tournament marks the 17th Women’s U-18 World Championship in ice hockey. The competition is set to be played in the city of Vantaa, Finland, from Jan. 4-12. Eight teams are competing as is customary of the first phase, with the nations being split up into two groups of four. Group A consists of the United States, Japan, Finland and Sweden. Meanwhile, Group B has Czechia, Canada, Slovakia and Switzerland.

The group stage of the tournament will see each team play each other once. The results will then decide the group standings heading into the quarterfinals, which all teams are all already qualified for.

In the knockout phase, the first-placed team in Group A will face the fourth-placed team in Group B, second place in Group A will face third place in Group B, third place in Group A will go up against second in Group B and fourth place in A will take on the top-ranked team in Group B.

The United States won the 2024 edition of the IIHF U-18 Women’s World Championship, taking a 5-1 victory in the final over Czechia. Meanwhile, Canada won the match for third place thanks to an 8-1 finish over Finland.

The U.S. and Canada both finished atop their respective groups, with a perfect three wins in three matches in the group stage.
