The United States (4-0-0) bounced back from conceding its first goal of the tournament in its quarterfinal victory on Thursday, advancing to the semifinals on Saturday where it will match up with Sweden (3-1-0) at Vantaa Trio Arena in Vantaa, Finland. It will be the second meeting between the teams in less than a week, with the U.S. claming a 3-0 Group A victory over the Swedes on Sunday. The Americans are the defending champions at the event and have won a record nine gold medals since the tournament began in 2008.

The U.S. scored nine seconds into its quarterfinal win over Slovakia before the Slovaks tied the game at the 3:01 mark. But Evelyn Doyle’s goal at 7:33 of the period opened the flood gates as the Americans poured in eight unanswered goals in a 9-1 victory. Doyle and Box each finished with two goals and an assist while Mary Derrenbacher had a goal and two helpers.

Sweden netted three second-period goals to power its 4-1 win over Switzerland on Thursday. Edit Danielsson finished with a goal and an assist and Maja Helge stopped 17 shots to pick up the win in goal.

Anabella Fanale leads the U.S. with three goals and seven points while Derrenbacher has a pair of goals and five helpers to match Fanale’s seven-point total. Doyle’s four goals are a team-high and goalie Morgan Stickney has a 0.25 goals-against average to go with a .978 save percentage. Danielsson has scored four of Sweden’s 11 goals in the tournament and leads the team with five points. In net, Helge has played in three of the four games and has a 1.33 GAA and .939 save percentage.
