Tournament co-hosts Sweden and Denmark collide on Sunday for the bronze medal at the IIHF World Championship
Sweden, one of two hosts for the 2025 IIHF World Championship, saw its gold-medal dreams dashed on Saturday and plays for a second straight bronze medal on Sunday at Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. The Swedes take on Denmark, which was blasted in its Saturday semifinal by Switzerland. The stakes are markedly different in this game. Sweden is an 11-time gold medalist at the Worlds while the Danes reached the semifinals for the first time in 58 trips to the tournament and will post its best finish ever at the event regardless of Sunday’s outcome. Denmark’s previous high-water mark had been an eighth-place run in 2010, a mark it matched in 2016.
