The preliminary round of the 2025 IIHF World Championship is halfway complete with Canada as one of just three undefeated teams. They take on Slovakia who is currently in the fourth and last quarterfinal spot in Group A. Through the first four games of the tournament Canada has been far and away the most dominant team in either group. They lead the IIHF 2025 World Championship with 21 goals while only allowing two through four games. Canada is on a collision course with host-country Sweden, who is also undefeated, and conveniently face each other in the final group game of the preliminary round.

In Canada’s first four games it had two shutouts and allowed just one goal a piece in the other two games. Both goals were in the first period of those games and lit a fire underneath Canada to skate both opponents off the ice.

The Canadian offense has been led by the trio of Nathan MacKinnon, Bo Hovart and Travis Konecny through the first four games. They each have four goals a piece and are tied for the third most goals scored in the tournament. With a win here they clinch a spot in the quarterfinals.

Slovakia looks to give Canada its first loss of the preliminary round and give itself the best shot at making the quarterfinals of the tournament. They started the tournament with a 5-0 loss to Sweden. Since then they have outscored opponents 7-5 and won two of the last three games building momentum.
