After opening Group B play with consecutive shutouts, the United States found itself on the wrong end of a 3-0 blanking against Switzerland on Monday. The Swiss scored twice in the later stages of the first period and the U.S. was never able to get the puck past goalie Leonardo Genoni. Cutter Gauthier of the Anaheim Ducks leads the Americans with three goals and with four points shares the team lead with Chicago Blackhawks forward Frank Nazar.

Norway fell behind 4:51 into the game and never got out of the hole in a 5-2 loss on Tuesday to Germany. Andreas Martinsen of the Norwegian club Storhamar scored with 10 seconds left in the first period and his Storhamar teammate, Jacob Berglund, netted a goal 7:07 into the third stanza. Four players have a single goal for Norway, including Johannes Johannesen of Finnish club Lahti Pelicans and Stian Solberg of the AHL’s San Diego Gulls.

The United States has two World Championship gold medals, the last in 1960 when the Olympics doubled as the Worlds. Norway’s best run at the tournament was a fourth place finish in 1951.
