Sweden and Czechia meet on Sunday for the 2nd time at the World Junior Championship, this time with the bronze medal on the line

Sweden (5-0-1) takes on Czechia (4-2-0) on Sunday for the second time at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship as the teams face off for the bronze medal at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa. Sweden dropped an overtime decision to Finland in Saturday’s semifinal while Czechia fell to the United States on Saturday night. The Czechs are looking to medal for the third straight year at the event while the Swedes won the silver medal last year.

Wilhelm Hallquisth scored at 11:32 of the third period to tie the game on Saturday before Finland got the win 9:22 into overtime on a power-play goal. Otto Stenberg had two goals in the loss. Defenseman Axel Sandin Pellikka and forward Anton Wahlberg have four goals each in the tournament for Sweden, with Sandin Pellikka leading the team with nine points. Melker Thelin has a 2.91 goals-against average and .885 save percentage in five games in net.

The United States snapped a 1-1 tie midway through the second period and went on to defeat Czechia 4-1 on Saturday. Jakub Stancl scored the only goal for the Czechs at 9:28 of the first period to tie the game. Stancl leads the team with six goals and nine points in the tournament, with Eduard Sale potting five goals. Michael Hrabel has been in goal for five games with a 2.63 GAA and .913 save percentage.

Sweden topped Czechia 4-2 on Tuesday during group play, with the Swedes erupting for all of their goals in the second period, putting the game away with two goals in 30 seconds late in the period. Czechia is in the bronze medal game for the second consecutive year while Sweden was the silver medalist in 2024.
