The Canadian Tire Centre is set to host the exciting weekend matchup between Sweden and Finland on Sunday in the semifinals of the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship. The tournament began with 10 teams split into two groups of five. The top four teams of each group would be put into the quarterfinals, while the last-placed team of each division would be eliminated from the tournament. The United States, Finland, Canada and Latvia finished as the top four nations in Group A, while Sweden, Czechia, Slovakia and Switzerland were all at the top in Group B.

In the quarterfinal round, the first matchup was between Sweden and Latvia. The Swedish national team finished atop Group B thanks to a perfect four-match win streak in the first phase, while Latvia was in fourth place in Group A with two overtime wins and two losses. The Swedes beat the Latvian side 3-2 to advance to the semifinals of the competition.

Then, the United States faced Switzerland, where the U.S. team was able to come away with a 7-2 thrashing over the Swiss. USA had finished in first place in Group A, while Switzerland was fourth in Group B.

The third encounter in the quarterfinals was between Finland and Slovakia, where the Finnish side came away with a 5-3 victory in regular time. Finland was second place in Group A, while the Slovakians were third in Group B.

Finally, Czechia took a slim 4-3 finish over host nation Canada in the final quarterfinal matchup of the competition.
