This year’s U.S. Open Golf Championship enters the final round with just four golfers under par as the course has taken its toll on the field. Sam Burns leads the tournament with a score of four under par after the first three rounds holding a one-stroke lead over the field. He holds that lead over Adam Scott and J.J. Spaun who are three under par through the first three rounds. Viktor Hovland and Carlos Ortiz are also in the mix at one under and even par respectively. Those four have endured the course, the weather and the stress of Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania this week.

Burns opened the tournament two over par with a 72 in the first round. Over the last two rounds Burns is six under par with nine birdies and three bogeys to capture the lead entering the final round of the 2025 U.S. Open Golf Championship.

If he is able to hold onto this lead Burns would win his first major tournament of his career. Last year he finished tied for ninth in the U.S. Open Golf Championship in his best outing in a major tournament.

Hovland has four top 10 finishes in major tournaments, but is also seeking his first major championship. That is the same for Ortiz who has never finished higher than 52nd in his career. Scott is the outlier of this group having won the 2013 Masters and is seeking his first U.S. Open Golf Championship after four top 10 finishes over the years.
