Colombia goes for its first win of the 2026 World Baseball Classic when it squares off against Panama on Monday.

Panama and Colombia look to get out of the cellar of Pool A from San Juan, Puerto Rico, in this 2026 World Baseball Classic on Monday afternoon. Panama is the only team to have beaten these two, with a 4-3 upset over Canada on Sunday. Panama is now 1-2 and fourth in Pool A, while Colombia has yet to win a game and sits in last place with a 0-3 record. The Panamanian win over Canada required a comeback and perseverance through two rain delays. Panama was coming off a tough 10th-inning walk-off loss to Puerto Rico. Panama was down again 2-1 in five innings against Canada, but the club bounced back with a three-run sixth inning fueled by an error from their opponent and an RBI double from Ruben Tejada to go up 4-2. Canada scored again in the bottom of the eighth, but it wasn’t able to pull off a complete comeback of its own. Panama will start Paolo Espino against Colombia today. The right-hander last pitched in the majors for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2024 and played in the Mexican League last season. Right before this game, Espino announced his retirement from pro baseball after 19 seasons.

Colombia scored on a sac fly in the top of the first, but Cuba went off for four runs in the bottom of the inning. Cuba stayed perfect so far with a 2-0 record. Colombia got one back in the sixth inning on another sac fly, but Cuba went off for another three runs in the bottom of the inning to squelch any form of a comeback. Colombia will go for its first win of the tournament by starting lefty Adrian Almeida against Panama. He earned the loss against Puerto Rico in Colombia’s opening game, pitching 1.1 innings and giving up all five runs in a 5-0 loss.
