The Dominican Republic and Venezuela battle it out for the top spot in Pool D in the 2026 World Baseball Classic on Wednesday.

Both the Dominican Republic and Venezuela will face off in primetime to stay undefeated in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. The Dominican Republic and Venezuela are both 3-0 in Pool D play. The good news for both teams is that they have clinched a quarterfinal berth, and this game will determine the pool winner and the top seed. Venezuela and the Dominican Republic both reached the quarterfinals in their last games. Venezuela beat Nicaragua on Monday, and the Dominican Republic beat Israel. Israel was eliminated from contention after losing to the DR and finished 2-2 in Pool D play. The Netherlands finished 1-3, and Nicaragua finished 0-4; both teams were eliminated on Monday. Of the remaining teams in the WBC, these two are in the top four for best odds to win, with the Dominican Republic second at +340 and Venezuela fourth at +700. This should be an incredibly close matchup, and one of the best games in all of Pool D.

The Dominican Republic continued its absolute domination in pool play with a 10-1 victory over Israel on Monday. The team’s first win was a 12-3 final over Nicaragua, and then they beat the Netherlands in an even bigger 12-1 rout. The Dominican Republic essentially won in the second inning, putting up five runs, highlighted by a grand slam by Fernando Tatis Jr. He would finish the night with six of the Dominican Republic’s 10 runs. Israel was only able to score in the bottom of the fourth on a Spencer Horwitz homer, but the Dominican Republic had already put up six runs. Israel was only able to collect two hits the entire game, with Boston Red Sox starter Brayan Bello pitching a phenomenal game, earning the win. The Horwitz homer was the only hit he surrendered, while also striking out seven in five innings. Former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins will get the start tonight for his first of the Classic.

Venezuela is coming off a solid 4-0 win over Nicaragua on Monday. Ronald Acuna Jr. was outstanding as usual, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs, a stolen base, a walk, and a homer in the second. Starter Yoendrys Gomez of the Tampa Bay Rays got the win, going two scoreless innings with two hits to open the game. Keider Montero of the Detroit Tigers came in after Gomez and pitched well, going three scoreless innings and allowing only three hits. Venezuela won despite only five hits and will likely need to double that production to keep up with the Dominican Republic. But they have a great option on the mound tonight with the Arizona Diamondbacks’ lefty Eduardo Rodriguez getting his first start.
