The top 2 seeds in California’s vaunted Southern Section meet Saturday night at Lake Elsinore Diamond Stadium for the section championship.

Corona (29-3), the top seed in the California Interscholastic Federation’s Southern Section baseball tournament, takes on No. 2 seed Harvard-Westlake (27-4-1) in the championship game at Lake Elsinore Diamond Stadium on Saturday night. The game features a premier pitching matchup, with senior left-hander Ethan Schiefelbein, a UCLA commit, taking the mound for Corona against Wake Forest-bound senior right-hander Duncan Marsten of the Wolverines, who come to Lake Elsinore on a 10-game winning streak. The Panthers, winners of seven in a row, finished a perfect 15-0 in the Big VIII League to earn its tourney bid. Harvard-Westlake topped the Mission League with a 15-1-1 mark.

Corona reached the championship game with a 3-1 victory over Huntington Beach on Tuesday. Junior Seth Hernandez cracked a two-run home run, his team-high eighth of the season, in the bottom of the sixth to give the Panthers the lead. Hernandez also allowed just a run on four hits over six innings to pick up the win on the mound.

Senior Jacob Magna tossed four shutout innings as the Wolverines beat Orange Lutheran 4-2 on Tuesday. Sophomore Jake Chung picked up the save with 2.1 innings of work.

The Panthers battle history in Saturday night’s game, as no No. 1 seed has won the section title since Camarillo turned the trick in 2002.
