Last season the Bruins won their third championship, one behind USC, who are the top-seeded team in the tournament this season. In the seven years that beach volleyball has had a championship tournament, the Bruins have won three and the Trojans have won the other four.
Heading into this tournament two of the Bruins five losses came to the Trojans, as they marched through the rest of the regular season schedule. One of those losses came in the final match of the season, ending a 20-match winning streak.Â
One of those wins came against the Wildcats earlier this month where the Bruins won 4-1 in near dominant fashion. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead, winning the first four games 21-8, 21-13, 21-19 and 21-14. The Wildcats took the third set followed by two more dominant wins in the final two sets to take the match. Another showing like that for the Bruins will send them to the second round of the 2024 Pac-12 Championship in college beach volleyball.
