    Sandy Ryan defends her WBO welterweight title in New York on Friday against former super featherweight champ Mikaela Mayer.

    England’s Sandy Ryan (7-1-1, 3 KOs) comes to The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Friday night to defend her WBO welterweight belt in a 10-round bout against former IBF and WBO super featherweight champion Mikaela Mayer (19-2, 5 KOs). Ryan is ranked No. 3 in the world by BoxRec while Mayer is No. 2 on that list. Ryan retained the WBO belt on March 23 in Sheffield, England, when Terri Harper retired after four rounds. Mayer comes off a 10-round split-decision loss in Liverpool, England, to Natasha Jones for the IBF welterweight crown. Mayer lost her super featherweight belts in a unification bout with then-IBO and WBC champ Alycia Baumgardner in October 2022.

    There are three other fights, all scheduled for 10 rounds, on the main card, with super welterweights Xander Zayas (19-0, 12 KOs) squaring off with Damian Sosa (25-2, 12 KOs) in the co-main event. Zayas went 10 rounds for the first time in his career on June 8, taking a unanimous decision over Patrick Teixeira at The Theater. Sosa has won his last three fights, taking a 10-round split decision from Marques Valle in Plant City, Florida, on April 24.

    The main card opens with super welterweights Vito Mielnicki Jr. (19-1, 12 KOs) and Khalil El Harraz (16-5-1, 2 KOs). Mielnicki won his 11th straight bout on Aug. 10 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when Laszlo Toth was disqualified in the second round after he was knocked down. El Harraz stopped a two-fight slide with a first-round TKO of Mario Giovanni Zolli in Roma on June 7.

    Bruce Carrington (12-0, 8 KOs) looks to remain unbeaten in the featherweight division when he fights Sulaiman Segawa (17-4-1, 6 KOs). Carrington holds the IBF international, NABF and WBO inter-continental titles, defending them with an eighth-round TKO of Brayan De Gracia on June 8 at the Theater. Segawa took a unanimous 10-round decision from Ruben Villa in Las Vegas on July 13.
