The Nets haven't been this exciting since they were based in Newark New Jersey. The Nets haven't been this exciting since they drafted Kenyon Martin in first overall in the 2000 draft. The Nets haven't been this exciting since Jason Kidd and Vince Carter were at the top of their careers being coached by Byron Scott and making back-to-back Finals appearances against the Spurs and Lakers. Who cared? They were the at their best in the NBA in the early 2000s.

ds Sure they won a couple ABA championships with Dr. J but they got so bad in the 80s and 90s that they considered a full rebrand to create more enthusiasm that was sorely lacking around the team. That's how you get close to renaming your team to the Swamp Dragons. It's so weird it feels like a lie. This franchise has had so many ups and downs and it finally feels like this team is legit and dare we say the kings of New York.

Of course they are the crown jewel of NY because of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving teaming up. It felt like this in 2013 when Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett were traded from the Celtics to the Nets to kick of their tenure in Brooklyn with a bang. It turned out that the two Hall of Famers were past their prime and trading all their draft picks to the Celtics was the main reason they were so terrible for most of the last decade.

These two are rivals for that trade alone. Brooklyn was set back for half a decade and Brooklyn has rightfully become the free-agent destination of choice after how dysfunctional the Knicks have been for two decades. KD & Kyrie looked phenomenal in their season opener against the Golden State Warriors. They made the Warriors look like the old school Warriors before they drafted Stephen Curry beating them by 26 points. Their offense looked unstoppable and they got support off their bench. It's just one game but it looked like a promising start for things to come. They still have a lot to prove and have to build their chemistry but they already look like one of the best competitors in the East.

The Celtics will also be one of the best in the Eastern Conference but it might take them longer to get there. They are getting used to life without Gordon Hayward as he signed with Charlotte in the offseason. They also will be without their best player in Kemba Walker until at least January as he's dealing with an injury. It's time for Jason Taytum to step into the de facto team leader role and keep this team afloat until they are full strength.

They started the season off great against the Milwaukee Bucks who are still the favorite to end with the best record in the Eastern Conference. This team made it to the Eastern Conference Finals last year but have much higher aspirations this year. The only problem is that they have much stiffer competition this time around. The Nets are the epitome of that fact.
