Unbeaten Mexico looks to wrap up its first Caribbean Series title since 2016 when it plays Dominican Republic on Friday night.

Mexico (5-0) continued its dominant pitching performance at the 2025 Caribbean Series in Wednesday’s semifinal victory and looks to defeat Dominican Republic (3-2) on home soil when the teams meet Friday night at Estadio Nido de los Águilas in Mexicali, Mexico, in the tournament final. Charros de Jalisco, the Mexican Pacific League champions this winter, are looking for their championship in the series while the Dominican entry, Leones del Escogido, seeks a fifth title. The Leones previously won the tournament in 1988, 1990, 2010 and 2012 and are managed by former MLB star Albert Pujols while former big-league infielder Benji Gil skippers Jalisco’s squad.

Danny Reyes shut down Puerto Rico for the second time in the tournament on Wednesday, firing six shutout innings as Mexico made three first-inning runs stand up in a 3-1 semifinal victory. Rudy Martin Jr. stroked an RBI double to open the scoring and Mateo Gil’s two-run single provided Reyes all the run support he needed. Martin and Michael Wielansky had two hits each and Trevor Clifton worked a perfect ninth for his third save of the tournament.

The Dominican Republic couldn’t hold a 3-1 lead in the eighth inning nor a 4-3 lead in the 10th before finally putting away Venezuela 5-4 in 11 innings on Wednesday. Socrates Brito doubled home Junior Lake for the go-ahead run in the 11th. Brooks Hall worked six scoreless innings, getting a no-decision. Brito was 4-for-4 and had a sacrifice fly in the win while Gustavo Nunez had three hits.

Former major-league left-hander Manny Bañuelos will start the final for Mexico. He took a no-decision against Venezuela in the preliminary round, allowing a run on five hits over six innings. Escogido is the fifth consecutive team from the Dominican Republic to compete in the Caribbean Series final, with the country’s last championship coming in 2021. Mexico’s last title came in 2016 and they are looking to become just the second Mexican representative to finish the Caribbean Series unbeaten.
