Coming off a dominant group stage, host Mexico takes on Puerto Rico in a Caribbean Series semifinal on Wednesday.

Mexico (4-0) outscored its opponents 19-4 in a dominant performance in the preliminary round of the Caribbean Series and secured the top seed for the knockout stage. On Wednesday, Mexican club Charros de Jalisco takes on Puerto Rico (2-2) league champion Indios de Mayagüez at Estadio Nido de los Águilas in Mexicali, Mexico in a semifinal matchup. Mexican manager Benji Gil announced Tuesday that right-hander David Reyes would start the semifinal. Reyes shut down Puerto Rico on Friday, allowing one run on four hits over seven innings. The winner advances to Friday’s final while the loser plays in the third place game on Thursday.

Puerto Rico stormed back from a 7-2 deficit after three innings to beat the Dominican Republic 10-7 on Tuesday to clinch its spot in the knockout round. Eddie Rosario tied the game with a rare three-run single in the eighth, before scoring on a wild pitch for the go-ahead run. Anthony Garcia capped the comeback with a solo home run in the ninth, while Isan Diaz was 3-for-4 and scored three times.

A five-run fifth inning lifted Mexico past Japan on Monday in a 7-2 decision. Rudy Martin Jr. was 3-for-5 in the win, while Luis I. Rodriguez struck out five and allowed one run over five innings of work. Miscues contributed to three of the five runs in the big fifth inning, with one run scoring on a throwing error and two more coming in on balks.

Martin is 6-for-13 in the series, with Japheth Amador and Michael Wielansky each driving in three runs. Diaz is 4-for-13 for Puerto Rico, with Garcia and Daniel Ortiz providing homers and Rosario driving in four runs.
