Will the Panthers be the first team to draft a quarterback in the NFL Draft? Tune in Thursday to find out.
The Carolina Panthers will pick sixth in the 2022 NFL Draft. They also won’t pick again until the fourth round, making it important that the team makes the right decision in the first. Will that decision be to take a QB? To trade down? To stand pat and take the best available player?
How to Watch the Carolina Panthers in the 2022 NFL Draft:
Game Date: April 28-30, 2022
Game Time: 8:00 p.m. ET
TV: ABC/ESPN/NFL Network
The Panthers are coming off of their third consecutive five-win season. The team took a risk by trading for Sam Darnold before last season, but after an encouraging couple of weeks early, Darnold became…well, Darnold. In 12 games, he threw nine touchdowns and 13 picks while completing under 60% of his passes. Cam Newton started five games for the team and struggled, going 0-5 as the starter.
If the Panthers go with a quarterback here, Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis are the likeliest players to be taken here. In a weak QB draft, you could argue that this is too high for these particular players, but head coach Matt Rhule is on the hot seat and needs to find a franchise quarterback soon. Maybe Willis or Pickett can be that guy? Otherwise, the team could look at taking the best offensive tackle left on the board, which would potentially be Charles Cross.
