The defending Grey Cup Champs Blue Bombers head to Alberta aiming to remain unbeaten against the Elks in CFL action
Boasting the Canadian Football League’s best scoring defense and standing as the last remaining undefeated team, the back-to-back champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers (6-0) begin a stretch of three straight games on the road tonight when they play the Edmonton Elks (2-4). The Elks are the last team to beat the Blue Bombers and have won two of their last three games but tonight face their toughest test of the season.

Elks quarterback Taylor Cornelius saw his first action of the season in last week’s come from behind win at Montreal throwing for 230 yards and the game-winning score to Kenny Lawler late in the fourth quarter capping off a 19-point second half deficit. Cornelius, the former Oklahoma State University quarterback, started for the Elks the last time they beat Winnipeg.
Tonight marks the first time Lawler faces his old team, winning a pair of titles with the Blue Bombers in 2019 and 2021.
The Blue Bombers defense is allowing a CFL low 17.3 points per game allowing just seven touchdowns in six games, ranks second in turnovers forced, and leads the league in interceptions with nine.
While they have buckled down in the red zone the Blue Bombers have been susceptible to big plays surrendering 292.3 passing yards per game, ranking next to last, and have given up 13 pass completions of 30 yards or more.
