Both Manchester City and Lyon have released their team sheets for today's quarterfinal matchup, as Lyon hopes to extend their magical Champions League run by pulling off the upset against favorites Manchester City on Saturday.

The video assistant stirred debate following a penalty decision that resulted in Lyon advancing past the Bianoconeri and into the competition’s last eight for the first time in a decade.

City saw off a fellow title favorite in Real Madrid in the round of 16, but England’s last remaining contender for this year’s crown faces a different challenge in getting past the team at longest odds to win.

Manchester City have released their lineup ahead of today's tie, with few surprises.

Man City–Lyon Match Preview

Victory over Rudi Garcia’s side eluded City both times these teams met during last season’s group stage. Pep Guardiola acknowledged as much in the buildup to Saturday’s clash at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, one of two stadia in Lisbon, Portugal, being used for the Champions League run-in, via Goal:

Lyon have 90 minutes to make the necessary impact if they’re to extend their Champions League fairytale further, with knockout ties cut down to a single-leg format following the coronavirus pandemic.

Morale will be running at an all-time high for Lyon, who put on a sound display during their 2-1 loss to Juve on Friday despite playing only one competitive match in the five months prior.

Garcia is aware of the gulf in pedigree between his side and their upcoming opponents but referred to the result against Juventus as inspiration for his team to prosper against the odds:

City—who finished the Premier League season as distant runners-up to Liverpool—are looking to add their second trophy this season after winning the League Cup, with attention fixed on breaking their Champions League duck (or at least making their final debut).

Gabriel Jesus looks locked in to lead their line as Sergio Aguero continues his recovery following knee surgery. The latter has been included in Guardiola’s Champions League squad for the knockout rounds but hasn’t featured since mid-June due to the injury.

Lyon have some hope left-back Youssouf Kone will recover in time for the last quarter-final, while question marks remain over the fitness of fellow defenders Marcelo and Kenny Tete.
