The Atalanta and PSG lineups have been released, with kick-off for their Champions League Quarterfinal tilt approaching. As expected, Kylian Mbappe will not start for PSG given his recent injury troubles, but the attacker will be available from the bench.

Atalanta have garnered swathes of support during their club-record run to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, but Paris Saint-Germain sit as a major obstacle between them and the last four.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are Italy’s last hope for a Champions League winner after Juventus’ shock exit to Lyon, and a neutral setting for the competition’s run-in could fall in their favor.

The cream of the European crop have traveled to Lisbon, Portugal, for the final rounds of this season’s tournament, with each matchup to be decided via a single elimination fixture.

PSG open as frontrunners to advance at the Estadio da Luz having not made the tournament’s penultimate stage since 1995, while Atalanta hope to make their semi-final bow after a tumultuous 2020.

Three months have passed since the 2019-20 Ligue 1 campaign was ended early due to the coronavirus pandemic and PSG crowned champions for a third season running. The French juggernaut has since completed a domestic treble by beating Saint-Etienne and Lyon in the finals of the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue, respectively.

It was initially feared Kylian Mbappe wouldn’t feature on Wednesday after suffering an ankle injury in the former fixture, but the 2018 World Cup-winner gave his team a boost with his return to training over the weekend:

Atalanta finished the Serie A campaign in third after a glimmer of a title challenge and have been in near-constant action since Italy’s season resumed in mid-June.

PSG, meanwhile, have played only five games since mid-March and failed to concede in any, though the aforementioned finals were the only competitive fixtures among them, along with friendly wins over Le Havre, Celtic and Sochaux.

PSG Champions League Squad in Tatters

Angel Di Maria is suspended for the first quarterfinal, while Marco Verratti is expected to miss out after Tuchel said PSG are worried about a knock he suffered in training. Edinson Cavani and Thomas Meunier both featured earlier in PSG’s Champions League campaign but are no longer at the club following the expiration of their contracts.

Atalanta Champions League Squad

Josip Ilicic has been out of Atalanta’s squad in recent weeks for personal reasons and isn’t expected to return against PSG. The spotlight falls to Alejandro Gomez, Duvan Zapata and Ruslan Malinovskiy to find the back of the net in his stead, while Luis Muriel is a threat off the bench.

The winners of this matchup will advance to face either Atletico Madrid or RB Leipzig in what many will consider the easier half of the semi-final bracket.
