In the series opener on Thursday, it was Washington State coming out on top and walking away with a 2-0 win. Cougars starter sophomore Grant Taylor was excellent in that one, allowing just two hits over nine innings.
That effort is even more impressive taking into account how good Arizona State had been at the plate this season. The Sun Devils are hitting .295 this season, which ranks second in the Pac-12. Their numbers don’t drop off significantly in conference play either – they’re also hitting .295 against Pac-12 opponents.
The pitchers tonight will be junior lefty Adam Tulloch for Arizona State and sophomore lefty Cole McMillan of Washington State.
Tulloch will be making his 16th start and 17th appearance of the year for the Sun Devils. He boats an impressive strikeout rate with 76 Ks in 61 innings so far this year.
McMillan will make his 14th appearance, with the previous 13 all coming as a starter. He’s closed the season strong, allowing only one or two earned runs in four of his last five starts, while throwing at least five innings in each.
