Oklahoma State and Baylor will open Big 12 Baseball Tournament play on Wednesday afternoon as the teams hope to earn a title and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Postseason play is underway in Austin, Texas as 12 teams compete for the chance to be crowned Big 12 Baseball Tournament champions. On Wednesday afternoon, the 10-seed Baylor Bears will take on the seven-seed Oklahoma State Cowboys in their opening game of tournament play. The winner will go on to play second-seed Kansas on Thursday. The Bears come into tournament play with an overall record of 33-21, but struggled in the Big 12 this season, finishing at 13-17. The team’s final series was played against UCF and the Bears picked up wins in the first two games before falling 11-7 in the finale. Now, the team will look to bounce back with a win in the tournament opener to stay alive in postseason play. Baylor will look to Tyriq Kemp offensively, as he brings a team-high batting average of .364 into Wednesday’s game.

The Cowboys will look to build on a three-game winning streak after sweeping Arizona State in their final regular season series over the weekend. The wins brought Oklahoma State’s overall record to 27-22 overall and 15-12 in Big 12 play. Brayden Smith led the team in the regular season finale, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Smith has led the team offensively for most of the season and is currently hitting a team-high .313. Colin Brueggemann is right on his tail, hitting .312 with a .603 slugging percentage. Hunter Watkins earned the win on the mound to move to 5-4 on the season. While Watkins performed well against the Sun Devils, the Cowboys will likely start Harrison Bodendorf on Wednesday. He leads the team with an ERA of 2.43.
Oklahoma State and Baylor just met two weeks ago in Big 12 play and the series went in the Cowboys’ favor, winning the first two games to secure the victory. The all-time series between the two teams now stands at 29-28, with Oklahoma State holding a narrow lead.
