Defending Big South tournament champion High Point swings into action on Thursday against Charleston Southern.

High Point (38-17) comes into the Big South Conference tournament as the No. 2 seed after squandering a chance to win its first regular-season title with consecutive losses in its final two games. The Panthers come off their bye on Thursday as they face third-seeded Charleston Southern (29-20) at Truist Point in High Point, North Carolina. High Point is the defending tournament champion and played in its first NCAA tournament in 2024. The Buccaneers made their lone trip to the NCAA tourney in 1996 and won their first-round game on Wednesday afternoon. The winner advances to take on the winner of Thursday’s earlier game between Winthrop and top-seeded USC Upstate while the loser will either play in Game 6 on Thursday night or Game 8 on Friday.

The Panthers surrendered 41 runs while dropping two of three at Winthrop last weekend, ceding the regular-season conference crown to USC Upstate in the process. Konni Durschlag slashes .442/.556/.769 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI while Brayden Simpson leads the team with 20 homers and Landen Johnson tops the squad with 78 RBI. Miggy Echazarreta has 18 stolen bases in 22 attempts.

Charleston Southern scored nine runs in the first two innings and rolled to a 12-2 victory on Thursday over Presbyterian. Aiden McAskie drove in three runs with a first-inning single and a second-inning two-run home run as the Buccaneers pounded out 13 hits. Parks Ledwell allowed two runs on three hits over 6.1 innings to get the win. Kaden Smith keys the offense with a .345/.454/.655 slash line to go with team highs of 13 homers and 72 RBI while Kain Collins has 17 stolen bases in 23 tries.

Wade Walton (8-3) is the likely starter for High Point, coming in with a 4.41 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 14 starts and 79.2 innings while striking out 87. Charleston Southern had not announced a starter for Thursday.
