Pool play continues on Wednesday at the Big Ten Baseball Tournament as Illinois and UCLA meet in Omaha.

Postseason play is underway in Omaha, Nebraska as 12 teams compete for the chance to be crowned Big Ten Baseball Tournament champions. On Wednesday morning, the 11-seed Illinois Fighting Illini will take on the second-seed UCLA Bruins at Charles Schwab Field, as the Illini play in their second game of pool play. As the No. 2 seed, the Bruins were able to rest on day one of pool play. UCLA finished regular season play with an overall record of 39-15 and a conference record of 22-8. The team closed out its first season as part of the Big Ten with two wins against Northwestern and will look to carry that momentum into Wednesday’s tournament opener.

The Fighting Illini concluded Big Ten regular season play with a series against Ohio State, securing the victory with wins in games one and two to bring their overall record to 29-23 and their conference record to 14-16. The team opened Big Ten tournament play with a game against Michigan on Tuesday morning, winning narrowly in a 6-5 victory in the 10th inning. Zach Bates earned the win for the Fighting Illini, improving to 2-2 on the season with 1.2 innings of work in which he walked one and struck out one. Drake Westcott led the team at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one RBI after hitting a solo shot to center field in the eighth. Jacob Schroeder emerged a hero for Illinois, connecting with a pitch in the 10th for a solo home run to left center.

When Illinois and UCLA met during regular season play, the Bruins were ranked No. 18 at the time and pulled off the sweep, outscoring the Illini 27-14.
