Missouri Valley play continues in college baseball on Sunday as Evansville and Illinois State conclude their series.

The Evansville Redbirds and the Illinois State Purple Aces will complete their Missouri Valley baseball series on Sunday at Duffy Bass Field and the Purple Aces will be looking to avoid a sweep. The Redbirds picked up a big 17-8 win on Friday in the opener and followed with a 7-1 win on Saturday to secure the series victory. The Purple Aces are now on a four-game losing streak which dropped their overall record to 11-23 and their conference record to 5-6 which puts them in seventh place in the MVC standings. Ty Rumsey brought in Evansville’s only run in Saturday’s loss, hitting an RBI double in the fifth inning. Kevin Reed ended up taking the loss on the mound after giving up seven earned runs in five innings of work.

The Redbirds are sitting just out of first place in the MVC standings with an overall record of 17-16 and a conference record of 8-3. The team is now on a three-game win streak after Saturday’s win. Judah Morris powered the offense in the team’s 7-1 win after going 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBI. Morris hit a three-run shot to left center in the third inning before hitting an RBI single in the fourth. Kyle Gibson and Shai Robinson each hit doubles in the win to add runs to the scoreboard, as well, and put the game out of reach for Evansville. Tanner Perry earned the win on the mound after throwing out seven batters in 6.1 innings of work.

Evansville and Illinois State have met a total of 72 times in their history and the series is a tight one with the Redbirds holding a slight 37-35 lead. Tune in on Sunday afternoon to see if the Purple Aces can get one back and avoid the sweep with a win.
