In ACC action on Thursday night, No. 17 Louisville visits Notre Dame at Frank Eck Stadium to begin a three-game series in college baseball.

As the calendar flips to May, playoff races are heating up in college baseball. That’s especially true in the ACC where the top of the standings are crowded – the top nine teams are all separated by just four games entering play on Thursday. One of those teams is No. 17 Louisville (31-13, 19-2), who sits in seventh place. The Cardinals will try to gain some ground this weekend in a three-game series with Notre Dame (24-18, 10-14) which begins on Thursday night at Frank Eck Stadium.

The Cardinals started gaining some ground last weekend when they hosted then-No. 4 and first place Florida State. After dropping the first game of that series Louisville won the next two, including a 14-2 game in the finale on Sunday. The Cardinals then beat Eastern Kentucky 11-5 on Tuesday in a mid-week non-conference matchup.

This will be the latest road test for a Cardinals team that has struggled outside of Louisville. The Cards are 4-8 on the road this year, compared to a 25-4 mark at home.

Notre Dame has been picking up momentum as well. Last weekend the Fighting Irish hosted and swept Cal, with the final win extending their winning streak to eight games. However the streak ended on Tuesday when they visited Purdue for a non-conference matchup and lost 11-5. They’ve still won six ACC games in a row heading into this weekend.
