LSU (47-15), the No. 6 national seed in the NCAA baseball tournament, can clinch its 20th appearance in the College World Series when it takes on unseeded West Virginia (44-15) at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Sunday night. The Tigers rolled to a blowout win in Game 1 of the best-of-three Super Regional on Saturday. LSU is in its 13th straight NCAA tournament and looks to get back to the CWS for the second time in three seasons. The Mountaineers, playing in their third straight NCAA tourney, played in their first Super Regional last season and have never gone to the College World Series.

LSU turned the game into a rout with a seven-run fifth inning and held off a late rally for a 16-9 win despite getting only eight hits, taking advantage of eight walks and five hit batsmen. Derek Curiel homered and drove in five runs in the win while Josh Pearson and Steven Milan each homered and finished with four RBI. Ethan Frey comes in slashing .350/.432/.694 with 13 home runs and 49 RBI while Jared Jones boasts team-bests of 20 homers and 69 RBI.

West Virginia grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second on Jace Rinehart’s RBI groundout while Gavin Kelly and Kyle West hit two-run home runs late in the game. West slashes .348/.498/.618 and leads the team with 11 homers while Rinehart tops the squad with 52 RBI.

Junior right-hander Anthony Eyanson (10-2) takes the ball for the Tigers on Sunday. He has a 2.50 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 17 appearances and 15 starts, striking out 135 in 93.2 innings. The Mountaineers did not declare a starter for Sunday’s game.
