Jim Patterson Stadium is set to host the exciting weekend matchup between Louisville and Miami on Saturday in the NCAA Super Regional round, with the winner of the best-of-three series deciding who will advance to the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s College World Series at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska. Prior to the first game of the series on Friday afternoon, Miami and Louisville had met 23 times on the diamond, with the Hurricanes holding a narrow 12-11 lead in the all-time series. The two programs last faced off at the 2024 ACC Tournament, where Miami defeated Louisville, 8-5. While this marks the first Super Regional meeting between Miami and Louisville, the two programs last faced off in the NCAA tournament during the 2013 Louisville Regional, where the Hurricanes fell, 6-4. In Game 1, the Cardinals were able to come away with an 8-1 victory over the team from South Florida.

The University of Miami is back in the NCAA Super Regionals for the 13th time in program history, and the first since 2016, after edging top-seeded Southern Miss, 5-4, in a thrilling winner-take-all contest Monday night at Pete Taylor Park.

Right-hander Will Smith earned the win after tossing three innings of one-run ball in relief, striking out four and allowing just one hit.

Starter Reese Lumpkin allowed one run across 3.1 innings, while Rob Evans and Brian Walters combined to close the door.

J.D. Arteaga, in his second year as head coach, returns the program to national prominence and could become the second fastest Miami manager to reach the College World Series.
