The Wolverines lost in extra innings to Illinois in their first game and it eliminated them from making the semifinals. The Bruins beat the Fighting Illini on Wednesday and it guaranteed them a spot in the semifinals. The Bruins will win the tiebreaker thanks to being the top seed in the pool. A win for the Bruins will pad their record.

UCLA comes into Thursday 40-15 on the season and are coming off an 8-6 win over Illinois. The Bruins broke a 6-6 tie with a run in the bottom of the seventh and then added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.

The Wolverines didn’t have the same luck, as they got down early in their game with the Fighting Illini, but would use a three-run eighth inning to tie the game at five.

They couldn’t get any more and gave up a run in the top of the 10th and took the loss that eliminated them from title contention.

The Wolverines now sit at 32-22 on the season and 16-14 in Big Ten play. They earned the seven seed for the tournament.

The Wolverines did not play UCLA this season and are hoping to upset the second-seed Bruins and finish their season with a win.
