For the final series of the college baseball regular season, New Mexico takes on San Jose State starting Thursday.
In the Mountain West when it comes to baseball, the top four teams in the standings at the end of the regular season make the conference tournament. Entering the final weekend of play this regular season there’s still a lot to be sorted out. The top five teams in the conference are all separated by just two games, meaning entry into the tournament and individual seeds have a long way to go before they’re decided. In a crucial series starting on Thursday, New Mexico (27-22, 16-11 Mountain West) visits San Jose State (20-30, 14-13 Mountain West) at Excite Ballpark this weekend.

New Mexico comes into the weekend tied with Fresno State for first place in the conference. San Jose State is currently sitting just outside of playoff positioning in fifth place, but that’s just due to a tiebreaker, as the Spartans have the same number of wins as Nevada and are just one game behind third place Air Force.
This is the second series of the year between San Jose State and New Mexico. When they met in Albuquerque back in late March, the Lobos won the first game 16-13, before San Jose State bounced back with wins of 7-5 and 17-4 in the next two games.
