The Louisville Cardinals will look to upset the No. 6 UNC Tar Heels again on Sunday in the rubber match of the teams’ three-game ACC series. The Cardinals come into their home game with an overall record of 15-3 and a conference record of 1-1. The team picked up a narrow 8-7 victory in the series opener on Friday, but lost in the second game of the double-header in a 6-4 defeat. UNC jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and scored another two runs before the Cards got on the board. Matt Klein grounded out to score Lucas Moore before Jake Munroe brought home Zion Rose. Rose brought home one more run in the eighth and then scored himself on a throwing error by the Tar Heels. Jack Brown got the start and was credited with the loss after throwing for three innings and giving up three earned runs while striking out two batters.

With the win in the second game of the series on Friday, the Tar Heels improved to 16-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The team will look to add another win on Sunday to move to .500 in ACC competition and move up in the standings. Gavin Gallaher led the Tar Heels’ offense on Friday, going 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBI from a two-run homer in the first and an RBI single in the eighth. Hunter Stokely also hit a two-run shot in the first to help propel UNC to a win that was credited to Jake Knapp on the mound following seven innings of work in which he struck out eight batters to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Cardinals and Tar Heels have met a total of 21 times in their history and the Tar Heels currently hold a 13-8 lead in the series. Tune in Sunday afternoon to see which of these teams can pick up the win in Kentucky.
