Oakland will take a trip to Kentucky on Wednesday to take on Louisville in non-conference baseball action.

The Louisville Cardinals will play host to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Wednesday night in college baseball at Jim Patterson Stadium as the teams prepare for conference play, which begins this weekend. The Golden Grizzlies have got off to a slow start this season and come into Wednesday’s non-conference matchup with a record of 3-14 so far. The team has lost four games in a row with the most recent being a 5-0 shutout against Middle Tennessee State on Sunday. Against the Blue Raiders, the team struggled to get any offense going at all, finishing the game with zero hits, as Drew Horn threw a no-hitter for the Blue Raiders and was just two balls shy of a perfect game. Brody Fahnestock was credited with the loss for Oakland after giving up three earned runs in three innings of work.

The Cardinals have got off to a much better start this season and come into Wednesday’s non-conference contest with an overall record of 13-2 so far. The team took on Lipscomb on Tuesday afternoon, winning handily in a 13-0 victory in just seven innings of play to extend its win streak to six games. Alex Alicea led at the plate for the Cardinals, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Matt Klein was close behind, finishing the game at 2-for-3 from the plate with three RBIs. Brandin Crawford picked up his first win of the season on the mound after throwing for one inning in which he only gave up two hits. Justin West got the start and went two innings, striking out three batters.

Oakland and Louisville have only met three times in their history and the Cardinals hold a 3-0 lead in the series. The last time the teams met was back in 2012 when the teams met for a three-game series in Louisville.
