Tennessee makes its first SEC Baseball Tournament appearance of the season when it battles against Alabama on Wednesday.

No. 9 Alabama and No. 8 Tennessee face-off in Game 5 of the second round of the SEC Baseball Tournament early Wednesday afternoon. This will be as close to a home game for the Crimson Tide as the SEC Tournament is hosted at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama, which is a suburb of Birmingham. Both clubs have the exact same 41-15 record coming into this game. This will be the first game of the tournament for the Volunteers. Tennessee is entering the tournament trying to avoid losing three games in a row. The Vols were awaiting for the winner of the matchup between Alabama and Missouri. The Crimson Tide took care of business, winning 4-1 on Tuesday against the 16-39 Tigers. The Volunteers won the season series 2-1 when these division rivals played back in March in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama’s game against Missouri was much closer than the final score would indicate with the Tide up 2-1 going into the seventh. Alabama would score in the frame and another in the bottom of the eighth to pad the cushion, but the Crimson Tide will need a lot more offense today to upset the Vols. Missouri scored first in the fourth inning on a solo homer, but Alabama came right back in the bottom of the frame from consecutive RBI singles by Justin Lebron and Kade Snell that game the Tide the lead they would never look back on.

The big star of the day that advanced Alabama to the second round was Tyler Fay, who earned his first win of the season on Tuesday. The redshirt sophomore pitched a career-high six innings will also hitting a career-high six strikeouts while only giving up five hits. Both Alabama (5-0) and Tennessee (3-0) are undefeated this season on neutral sites, as this is about as close of a matchup on paper that we may see in the SEC Tournament.
