Texas A&M and Mississippi St. will face-off in the SEC Baseball Tournament on Wednesday night after a bye for the No. 3 Aggies and a win over in-state rival Ole Miss on Tuesday for the No. 5 seeded Bulldogs.

For Mississippi State to get to this point in the SEC Baseball Tournament and face Texas A&M it took some major skill and a little bit of luck. The Bulldogs made it to this double elimination round thanks to a walk-off home run in the ninth inning for a 2-1 win over Ole Miss on Tuesday. Now, they are riding high into Wednesday’s game against the Aggies.

The teams faced each other during the regular season all the way back in March with the Aggies winning two of three games. A&M won the first game 6-3, Miss. St. then won 5-1, and the rubber match was a 6-1 win for the Aggies.

Connor Hujsak was the hero on Tuesday when he drilled a two-run, walk-off home run to beat the Rebels at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. The game was quite the pitchers duel, with the Ole Miss and Mississippi State (37-19) pitching staffs combining for 24 strikeouts on the night.

Texas A&M’s Braden Montgomery and Jace LaViolette have been named semifinalists for the 2024 Golden Spikes Award. The duo is the first pair of Aggie teammates to be named semifinalists for the award since Asa Lacy and John Doxakis in 2019. The Maroon & White are one of five teams in the country to land two players on the list.

LaViolette is in the midst of a monster sophomore campaign that has seen him belt 28 homers with 72 RBIs, while batting .324. The Aggie center fielder’s 28 long balls are the second-most in program history.

Montgomery is batting .325 to go along with 26 homers and an SEC-best 80 RBIs. Across the nation, Montgomery ranks fourth in RBIs and seventh in home runs.

The Texas A&M baseball team had a league-best five players named to the All-SEC Baseball Team, including four on the First Team.
