They opened up the season with a three-game sweep of Elon and won two of the three games against Cal Poly after having a single game against McNeese postponed. However, since that series, they lost to Texas State in the middle of the week, followed by Oklahoma State and Arizona in this Houston series. Jace Laviolette leads the team batting this season with three home runs and nine RBIs through nine games.

The Rice Owls are 2-7 overall this season. They played a similar three-game series with multiple teams in Puerto Rico to open the season and lost all three to Villanova, Michigan, and Virginia. They won a single game after that to Sam Houston 6-1. Last weekend, they played a three-game series against USC.

They split the series 1-1, with the middle game being postponed. This Houston series has been four games total for Rice, with this being the capstone. They lost to Arizona on Wednesday, Mississippi State on Friday, and Tennessee yesterday, heading into today. Landon West leads the team in batting this season with a .240 average, one home run, and three RBIs.
