Mississippi State will look to bounce back from a loss to Texas on Friday to earn its first SEC win in college baseball action.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs will take on the No. 11 Texas Longhorns on Sunday in an SEC double-header in Starkville. The Bulldogs come into Sunday’s games with an overall record of 13-5 and a conference record of 0-1 after losing to the Longhorns on Friday in a narrow 9-8 defeat. Texas got on the board first, but the Bulldogs posted a four-run second inning to take a a 4-2 lead. By the end of the sixth it was a 5-3 ball game, but the Longhorns posted a five-run seventh to take the lead. The Bulldogs rallied in the ninth, but could only muster two runs. Ross Highfill led the Bulldogs offensively with a big three-run homer in the second and added another run with a single in the sixth. Chase Hungate suffered the loss on the mound to move to 1-1 on the season.

The Longhorns dropped their first game of the 2025 season in a 4-3 ten inning loss to Louisville, but has not lost since. The teams is now 15-1 on the season and will look to extend its win streak to 17 games at the conclusion of Sunday’s double-header. Ethan Mendoza is leading the Longhorns’ offense this season with a .421 batting average and he delivered again on Friday night. Mendoza went 2-for-5 at the plate and ended up scoring on a Bulldogs’ throwing error. Andre Duplantier II stayed undefeated on the mound, winning his second game this season with three innings of work in which he struck out four batters. Jared Spencer got the start and struck out seven batters.

The Longhorns and the Bulldogs have met 14 times in their history and the series is all tied up at seven wins apiece. Tune in Sunday to see which way the scales tip following the double-header in Starkville.
