No. 22 UCLA shrunk the gap by beating No. 2 Oregon State on Thursday. With a win on Friday, the Bruins could have a share of first place in the Pac-12 with just one game to play in the regular season.
The drama is building at the top of the Pac-12 standings with just one game. In the first game of a three-game series on Thursday, No. 22, UCLA beat No. 2 Oregon State 4-1 to get within a game of the top spot. When the two teams meet again on Friday, UCLA will have a chance to tie things up heading into the final game of the regular season.

Oregon State enters this game 19-9 in conference play, while the Bruins are 18-10. UCLA is technically No. 3, with No. 5 Stanford (facing USC this weekend) also in the mix at 19-9.
If the Beavers win on Friday, that would eliminate UCLA from the top seed in the conference tournament and create a two-team race with Stanford. However, if the Bruins win, it could either make a three-way tie with one game to play or leave both teams looking up at the Cardinal entering Saturday.
Both teams will turn to freshman starters for Friday’s crucial game. Lefty Ethan Flanagan will get the ball for UCLA and it will be his 23rd appearance but just his fifth start. Last weekend against Washington State, he threw four scoreless innings while allowing three hits, lowering his season ERA to 2.27.
Oregon State will counter with righty Jacob Kmatz. Kmatz has made 12 starts and 13 total appearances to this point, with a 3.52 ERA in 64 innings. In his last start against Arizona, he allowed three earned runs on six hits in six innings.
