The No. 5 seed in the College World Series, North Carolina, will take on Arizona at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in a decisive Game 3 of the Chapel Hill Super Regional. The Tar Heels dominated the first game of the series on Friday afternoon with an 18-2 win on the back of seven rocky innings from ACC Pitcher of the Year Jake Knapp. However, the offense remained white hot at the plate, accounting for 18 runs. Kane Keply, Luke Stevenson, Hunter Stokely, and Sam Angelo all homered in the win.

It was Stokely who had the best day of all, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs, a home run, and five RBIs. Gallaher remained hot as well, going 4-for-5 at the plate with his 66th and 67th RBIs of the season to lead North Carolina. Arizona will be backed into a corner in a must-win Game 2.

The Wildcats came back and took the second game on Saturday afternoon in a wild showing. UNC’s second-best pitcher and best closer gave up eight runs combined as Raul Garayzar, Garrett Hicks, Casey Hintz, and Tony Pluta put together nine innings at the plate for the Big 12 team. All game, the teams went back and forth with lead changes almost every other inning.

Arizona saw only one homer, despite putting up double-digit runs. Tommy Splaine went 2-for-4 at the plate and blasted a two-run shot. Maddox Mihalakis went 2-for-5 and had three RBIs while Aaron Walton went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Three other players had an RBI in the win. It is win-or-go-home in Game 3.
