The journey to the Super Regionals saw the Bruins go undefeated in the Los Angeles Regional. They cruised through Fresno State, Arizona State and UC Irvine by a combined run total of 38-14. For the Roadrunners, they upset their way to this stage with two wins over the two-seed Texas to become the underdog darling of the tournament. In the Austin Regional, the Roadrunners defeated Texas Christian (7-1), the Longhorns (9-7) and then the Longhorns (7-4) again in the finals.

That sets up the Roadrunners as underdogs again, taking on the Bruins on their home turf. In the Super Regionals, the teams play a best-of-three game series. The first game of this series is Saturday, with game two on Sunday, and if necessary, game three on Monday for a spot in the final eight of the College World Series.

This season, the Roadrunners’ offense has been led by the bats of Drew Detlefsen (13 home runs) and James Taussig (10 home runs). For Taussig, his bat has carried over into the playoffs, going 6-10 with five runs batted in through the first three games.

The Bruins have been extra base hit masters this postseason with seven doubles, one triple and five home runs through the first three games, putting pressure on opposing pitchers. Those two offenses have the potential to put up fireworks in the Los Angeles Super Regional.
