Virginia and NC State will close out their ACC series on Sunday afternoon as the teams look to move up in the standings with a win.

In the final game of a three-game series, the Virginia Cavaliers will conclude its road trip with the finale against ACC opponent NC State in a rubber match at Doak Field at Dail Park. The Cavaliers took game one in an 8-6 victory while the Wolf Pack took game two on Saturday in a 9-2 win. NC State is now 20-11 on the season with a conference record of 6-5 which puts the team in seventh place in the ACC standings. The Cavaliers are sitting three spots back with a conference record of 7-7 and an overall record of 17-12.

Virginia was able to take an early lead on Saturday with a ground ball from Henry Ford which brought home Aidan Teal. From there, the Wolf Pack put on a show which started in the second inning with a solo home run from Justin DeCriscio. Ty Head singled shortly after, scoring Luke Nixon and Brandon Novy. While still in the second inning, Chris McHugh singled to bring home Matt Heavener and the Cavaliers were finally able to get the third out. In the third, Luke Nixon singled and Novy drew a walk, bringing Nixon home. The Cavaliers brought a run home in the sixth with an RBI double from Ford, but that’s where their scoring stopped. NC State was able to extend the lead once again, this time from the bat of DeCriscio with a ground ball to third. The final scoring play of the game was a single from Brayden Fraasman to bring in two more runs.

The winning pitcher was Heath Andrews who pitched 6.0 innings, allowing three runs and striking out four batters. For Virginia, Evan Blacno took the loss after pitching 2.1 innings and striking out two.
